A Day in the Life of Our Pre-K Counts Classrooms in Lancaster, PA
Play-Based Learning with Certified Pre-K Teachers
Play is the work of the preschooler. A day in one of our Pre-K Counts classrooms is spent learning through hands on, play based experiences. Our certified teachers create fun, educational experiences for children carefully planned and prepared based upon their individual and whole group goals. Every classroom is staffed with a PA Pre-K-4 certified teacher and an assistant teacher.
Supporting the Whole Child:
Our Preschool Daily Schedule
In our PreK Counts classrooms, educators focus on supporting the whole-child. We start by creating predictable, supportive routines. Every classroom follows a daily schedule that while flexible, allows children to predict what is coming next and feel safe knowing what to expect. The daily schedule has planned times for meals, whole group time, small group time, free play time, art, outdoor time and reading.
Educators structure the day in a way that allows for children’s needs to be met and to practice the routine of a school day, while having lots of breaks for movement and play. In Pre-K Counts, children’s skills are scaffolded as the year goes on with each day building upon the previous one. Social/emotional skills are the foundation of our classrooms with a great deal of emphasis placed on learning to control oneself, identify and express emotions, follow directions, listen to directions and how to make friends and be part of a classroom community. As the school year progresses, teachers begin focusing on academic skills such as name recognition, letter and number identification, counting and basic math skills.
Free, Nutritious Meals for Pre-K Students
Every day children are served a nutritious breakfast and lunch prepared in our kitchen to ensure they have the energy needed to fuel their play and learning throughout the day! Meals are provided free of charge to families. Meals are designed to be both nutritious and kid-friendly and are prepared daily on site. Learn more about our food and meals here.
Active Play:
Our Expansive Lancaster PA Playground
Children have the opportunity to play outside daily (weather permitting) or stretch their legs in our indoor gross motor space. Outdoors we have an expansive outdoor play area designed specifically with preschoolers in mind. There are opportunities for climbing, jumping, balancing running, sensory play and lots of outdoor toys! We have both shade and water available on the playground for warmer temperatures. If weather is inclement, we have an indoor gross motor space where children can run, bike or play interactive games.
Parent Communication and Kindergarten Readiness
Parents are frequently updated on their children’s progress using our Procare Engage app where you can see pictures of your child throughout the day and communicate with their teachers. Additionally, conferences are offered twice per year so teachers and parents can sit down and discuss their child’s progress and goals. Literacy and Lunches are held throughout the year to allow families to come into the classroom and experience a fun literacy activity and connect with their child’s peers, other families and teachers. Learn more about our daily communication with parents and the app we use here.
Every day at LEEC we have a blast playing, learning and preparing our preschoolers for Kindergarten and beyond!
