Kids LOVE playing in autumn leaves and exploring their colors and textures. Take your children outside to explore the changing colors of leaves on trees and once they fall rake them up and play in them!

Play Outside!
Take advantage of the cooler temperatures and beautiful fall days by spending extra time outdoors. Use the opportunity to explore local parks! There are so many parks in Lancaster, PA. You could plan to explore a new park every week!
Autumn Nature Walks
Fall is filled with colors and new changes outside. Take your littles out for a walk around your neighborhoods or a park and play I Spy talking about all of the beautiful Fall colors of leaves, drying corn fields, pumpkins and anything else you can find.

Fall Sensory Bins
Gather fall items and place them in a bin/container to explore. The items can be natural items gathered from outdoors like all of the falling leaves and acorns or purchased from local craft stores. Anything will work to be fun sensory exploration for your little preschooler!
Fall Festivities & Fairs
Lancaster, PA is filled with fun things you can do in the Fall! From Lancaster Central Market’s Harvest Breakfast, to visiting any one of the numerous pumpkin & mum farm stands (some of which also have farm animals nearby to see!), checking out the Lancaster Library calendar’s fall activities or rent some Autumn themed books, to visiting one of the many fairs and Farm Shows this time of year.

Painting with Fall Colors and Objects
Paint with fall colors using unique items such as pumpkin stems, sticks or leaves. Talk about the different colors as well as what happens when colors mix together.

Examine a pumpkin with all of the senses including cutting it open and seeing what it is inside! Allow children to touch and explore the inside of the pumpkin. Separate the pumpkin seeds and cook to enjoy a healthy snack later! Or simply gather fun art supplies and decorate a pumpkin to enjoy looking at all season long.
